Before you come

Ranch rules

A working ranch is a working environment. These rules keep everyone, horses, riders, and visitors, safe and welcome.

  1. Sign a waiver upon entry and every January 1.

All riders and guests must sign a waiver on their first visit each calendar year. You can pick it up at the barn or download from our Forms page in advance.

  2. Do not ride any horse unless told by Jeneva or Richard.

Even if a horse looks calm. Always wait for instructions from staff before mounting.

  3. Closed-toed shoes, long pants, no loose clothing or jewelry.

No sandals or open-toe footwear, no high heels. We have a few loaner boots if you forgot, please ask before riding.

  4. Appropriate clothing must be worn.

If clothing is too tight or too short, we'll provide a shirt and sweatpants you can borrow for the lesson.

  5. Closed-toe shoes for parents and guests around horses too.

Same rule applies whether you're riding or just watching from the rail.

  6. ASTM/SEI helmets required for all riders under 18.

Strongly recommended for adults. Helmets are available at the barn, bring your own if you prefer.

  7. Do not enter the Mustang pens unless authorized.

These are wild horses and still untamed. The pens are off-limits unless you're working with a trainer.

  8. No smoking or vaping outside the Smoke Pit.

And cigarette butts get cleaned up. The Smoke Pit is the only designated spot.

  9. Children not in a lesson stay with a parent or guardian.

Always supervised, never running through paddocks or barn aisles.

  10. Keep questions and comments to yourself during a lesson.

If you're watching, please save the coaching for after. Questions during instruction-free moments are welcome, emergencies always trump everything else.

  11. Stay in the ranch area.

The personal backyard area is off-limits to visitors. The ranch grounds are well-marked.

  12. Arrive 15 minutes before your lesson.

That gives time for tacking, helmet fitting, and a quick briefing before saddle time.

  13. Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours out.

Less than 24 hours notice incurs a $15 fee, payable at the next lesson.

  14. When in doubt, ask.

We'd rather answer ten questions than have one preventable accident. Always ask.
