Service 02

Mustang taming & training

Wild mustangs are different. We do this work the way it should be done, slow, patient, and built on partnership instead of pressure.

The work

Gentling, not breaking.

We specialize in gentling wild Mustangs to prepare them for future homes, ensuring they're ready to build lasting partnerships with their new owners. We're BLM-approved for wild Mustangs, with 7-foot pens, a 50-foot round pen, and a one-mile trail and three-acre pasture for further training.

Every Mustang gets a tailored plan. We listen first, then work, slowly, consistently, and built on partnership instead of pressure.

Mustang training at Crossroads Ranch
The process

Our four-step training

Step 01

Acclimation

On arrival, the Mustang is given time to adjust to the ranch. We observe behavior, temperament, and characteristics. This becomes the foundation for an individual training plan.

Step 02

Trust building

Round-pen sessions, positive reinforcement, consistent handling. Our trainers spend time near each Mustang without imposing, letting the horse grow comfortable with human presence.

Step 03

Handling & groundwork

Once trust is established: haltering, leading, grooming, standing for the farrier. Groundwork develops responsiveness and confidence in new situations.

Step 04

Advanced training

Saddle training, groundwork under pressure, and the essential skills that prepare each Mustang for a future home. We use gentle, progressive methods, every step.

Working with us

Three ways to bring a Mustang into your life

Option A

Adoption & train-with-owner

We help you choose a Mustang through BLM adoption events or the Forest Service and bring them to the ranch. You learn alongside the horse, providing much of the daily care. Best for hands-on owners.

Option B

Trained Mustang for purchase

We hand-select Mustangs from BLM adoption and the Forest Service, train each to a basic skill level, and introduce saddle training. Additional training increases the price per Mustang.

Option C

Full training by Crossroads

For folks with no horse experience or no BLM-approved facility. Jeneva tames and trains your Mustang at the ranch. You visit at least once a week to see progress. Training: $800.
