Lessons & training

Private and small-group horseback riding lessons for every level of rider. Helmets and tack provided. Patience always provided.

Our approach

What "ground to saddle" means

We start every rider on the ground, leading, brushing, and learning how a horse reads body language, before they ever climb on. That foundation builds confidence on both sides of the halter. The saddle is the reward for the work, not the starting line.

Two formats

Onsite or offsite, your choice

Onsite

Lessons at our ranch

Rates

What it costs

Onsite

$50 per session

A 60-minute horsemanship lesson at the ranch with one of our three ranch horses. Beginners through intermediate, ages 3 to 60+.

Offsite

$75 to $85 per session

60 to 90 minutes at your facility, within one hour of Fredericksburg. Travel and time set the price.

Training Board

$450 per month

Stall with run, daily feeding, hay, stall cleaning, turnouts, and 3 training sessions per week. 90-day minimum for foundation work; 30-day tune-ups available after evaluation.

Prices effective 2026. Call or message for group rates or working-student arrangements.

Training board

Bring us your horse.

We take time to train your partner toward your specific goals. Every week, there's an opportunity to take a lesson alongside the training so you and your horse stay in step.

For any horse starting groundwork or foundation training, we require a minimum 90-day training board. If we determine that a 30-day tune-up is sufficient after several rides, we'll sign a new training contract for that.

For folks ready to commit serious time, learning horse care, training, and ranch life from the ground up. Working students help around the ranch in exchange for training and experience. Reach out and let's talk about whether it's a fit.

What to wear & bring

  • Boots or closed-toe shoes with a low heel. No sandals, no high heels, no flip-flops. We have a few loaner boots if you forgot.
  • Long pants. Jeans are perfect. Shorts will chafe and we don't recommend them.
  • A helmet (or borrow ours). Required for under-18. Strongly suggested for adults.
  • Water. Especially in summer. Virginia gets hot in the saddle.
  • Liability release form. Download from our Forms page or sign at the barn before your first lesson.
